Subclass 482 TSS Visa

TSS stands for Temporary Skill Shortage visa,
which is a type of visa that allows skilled
workers to come to Australia to fill labor shortages.
It replaced the 457 visa in March 2018

The TSS visa has two streams

  • Short-term stream (STSOL): Allows skilled workers to work in Australia for up to 2 years (or up to 4 years if an International Trade Obligation (ITO) applies).

  • Medium-term stream (MLTSSL): Allows skilled workers to work in Australia for up to 4 years, with eligibility to apply for permanent residence after working for three years in Australia.

To be eligible for the TSS visa, applicants must be sponsored by an approved Australian employer and meet the minimum requirements for the nominated occupation, including relevant skills, qualifications, and work experience

Subclass 186 TRT Stream

The 186 TRT (Temporary Residence Transition) visa is a pathway to permanent residency in Australia for temporary visa holders who have been working in Australia on a Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (subclass 482) or a related visa for at least three years.

To be eligible for the 186 TRT visa
applicants must meet several requirements, including

  • Being nominated by an Australian employer who is willing to offer them a permanent position in their business.

  • Having worked for that employer in Australia on a TSS visa or a related visa for at least three years in the same position that they are being nominated for.

  • Meeting the skills, qualifications, and English language requirements for the nominated occupation.

  • Meeting health and character requirements.

  • The 186 TRT visa is part of the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS), which allows Australian employers to sponsor skilled workers from overseas to work in Australia on a permanent basis.

Once the 186 TRT visa is granted, the visa holder is entitled to live and work in Australia permanently, and they can also include their family members in the visa application. The 186 TRT visa holders are also eligible to apply for Australian citizenship, provided they meet the relevant eligibility criteria.

Subclass 186 DE Stream

The 186 DE (Direct Entry) visa is a pathway to permanent residency in Australia for skilled workers from overseas who have not worked in Australia previously or have only worked in Australia for a short period of time.

To be eligible for the 186 DE visa,
applicants must meet several requirements, including

  • Being nominated by an Australian employer who is willing to offer them a permanent position in their business.

  • Meeting the skills, qualifications, and English language requirements for the nominated occupation.

  • Having their skills assessed by the relevant Australian assessing authority.

  • Meeting health and character requirements.

Once the 186 DE visa is granted, the visa holder is entitled to live and work in Australia permanently, and they can also include their family members in the visa application. The 186 DE visa holders are also eligible to apply for Australian citizenship, provided they meet the relevant eligibility criteria.
